First Look at Ang Lee’s ‘Life of Pi’

The first image from Ang Lee’s adaptation of Yann Martel’s best-selling novel, Life of Pi, is online. The main question surrounding the movie is whether the story will be compelling enough on the silver screen given that the story centers on an Indian boy from Pondicherry who survives 227 days after a shipwreck, while stranded on a boat in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger.

We do know that Lee is using CGI for the tiger and from our first glimpse at the movie, it looks surprisingly good. Newcomer Suraj Sharma plays the protagonist, Piscine Molitor “Pi” Patel while Irrfan Khan will take on the role of the adult Pi. Tobey Maguire and Gérard Depardieu are part of the supporting cast.

Check out the picture below (via The Playlist) and let us know what you think! Life of Pi will hit theaters on December 21st.

  1. Not sure but Lee might be a real master… I’ll probably give it a try since the story is original.

Who’s Richard Depardieu?? Gerard’s son? In any case, I might give this a shot, looks pretty intriguing and Ang Lee generally does great work.

That doesn’t look bad for a CGI tiger.

I love Ang Lee, so I’m probably going to see this. Looks like at the very least it will have strong visuals.
