First Look at Jennifer Lawrence & Bradley Cooper in ‘Serena’

While The Hunger Games continues to dominate the box office for nearly four weeks now, star Jennifer Lawrence isn’t wasting any time as she is currently shooting the adaptation of Ron Rash best-selling novel Serena in Prague. We now have our first look of her and co-star Bradley Cooper which you can see below.

The film is set in 1929 and centers on happily married couple George (Cooper) and Serena Pemberton (Lawrence) who travel from Boston to the North Carolina mountains where they build together a ruthless timber empire. While George is already used to life in the wilderness, Serena is new to the mountains but she soon makes herself the equal of any man. However, their relationship is complicated by George’s past infidelity and her inability to bear a child, setting her on the path to murder her husband’s illegitimate son.

I’m very excited for this project, not only because of the actors involved but mostly because I’m a big fan of director Susanne Bier. She really impressed me with After the Wedding as well as the Oscar-winning In a Better World and this gritty drama looks right up her alley.

The film follows newlyweds George (Cooper) and Serena Pemberton (Lawrence) who travel from Boston to the mountains of North Carolina where they begin to build a timber empire in 1929. Serena soon shows herself to be the equal of any man: overseeing crews, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man’s life in the wilderness. Together, this king and queen rule their dominion, killing or vanquishing all who stand in the way of their ambitions. But when Serena learns that she can never bear a child, she sets out to murder the woman who bore George a son before his marriage. And when she starts to suspect that George is protecting his illegitimate family, the Pembertons’ intense, passionate marriage begins to unravel as the story moves toward its shocking reckoning.
