Watch: Awesome First Trailer for Time Travel Thriller ‘Looper’ with Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Sony Pictures has debuted the first trailer for Rian Johnson‘s time travel thriller Looper, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis. The film revolves around a mobster (Gordon-Levitt) working for a crime syndicate in the near-future. He, along with other so-called Loopers, kill people sent from the future by their boss. Things get complicated when he recognizes one victim as his future self (Bruce Willis) and lets him escape. Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels also star in the film.

I was already highly anticipating this movie because of the time travel premise but wow, this looks fantastic. Gordon-Levitt is made to look like Bruce Willis so it’s a bit unsettling to see at first but otherwise, this looks stylish and very exciting. Naturally, let’s hope there is more to this movie than what is shown in the trailer but so far so good.

Watch the trailer below or click over to Apple to watch in HD. Looper opens on September 28th.

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce.

  1. I agree, this does look awesome although i am not sure the time travel stuff will make sense in the full story

This looks pretty cool. Never imagined that JGL could become such a badass.

  3. Pete says:

Mmmmmmm Tine travel. Bruce, JGL and time travel you say? All over this like a rash!

  4. Jaina says:

Can’t freaking wait! I am fully expected for it to break my brain.

  5. Andrew says:

Very, very exciting. As though this project didn’t already have my attention as it is.

One note: while JGL is wearing some prosthetics, a lot of the resemblance– from what I understand– has to do with his performance more than anything else. That just makes me all the more interested in seeing JGL at work here.

Woops I was just copy and pasting the plot to read it in the comment and accidentally hit the button, ahah. Sorry ’bout that. I wanted to say, interesting premise and great cast! JGL and Dano and two of Hollywood’s brightest, LOVE Emily and of course Bruce Willis is always watchable. Sign me up!

  7. My ass is on the seat to see this!!! I love “Brick” and I really thought “The Brothers Bloom” was very underrated.

  8. Gibbs says:

Looks awesome and I’m really starting to like JGL! I can’t wait :)

Kind of reminds me of Van Damme’s cheese fest Timecop but I’m sure this one will be much much better, I hope. That September release date worries me just a little bit though, it’s the month when most studios dump their not big enough for a summer release and not good enough for the holidays films.

    • Castor says:

Ouch, let’s not go and make comparison with that terrible flick ahah ;) Yea the September release is weird but hey, we got Drive last year in September…

Dayum. I love this concept. Can’t wait.

  11. i’m not even a big time travel fan, but the crime aspect definitely intrigues me

  12. Hooked. That’s what I was after watching this trailer. Johnson has great talent, but this automatically went into the list of my ‘top 5 must sees’ for the trailer alone. Brilliant concept, a great director, and a great cast to boot, I’m very much looking forward to this.
