Watch Scar-Jo Whup Some Ass in First Clip from ‘The Avengers’

Let me put you on hold. Marvel has premiered the first clip from their upcoming superhero movie The Avengers and it features Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) using some good old martial arts and a prop chair to bring mayhem on some poor Russian saps who thought they had “captured” her.

Ok that’s some pretty cool stunt work and that nonchalant tone of hers could easily have been from something like Buffy: Vampire Slayer. Who needs superpowers right? In any case, watch the clip below and let us know what you think. Can you believe the movie is only one month away!

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”–the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble in summer 2012. In “Marvel’s The Avengers,” superheroes team up to pull the world back from the brink of disaster when an unexpected enemy threatens global security.

Good times! And yes, totally Buffy!

  2. le0pard13 says:

Looks great. I’m so there on Opening Day. Although, that flip-and-break-the-chair-on-an-opponent-to-free-yourself move is starting to get a little old ;-) .

  3. That is some flat out badassery right there.

Very cool. Totally entertaining. A great sign, I think.

  4. Kristin says:

Um, that was awesome. Very badass.

  5. Red Georges says:

That has Whedon written all over it. If he’s allowed that much freedom throughout the entire film, I’m not sure how this one can fail.

Oddly enough I wanted more! At least the stunt person actually looks like her this go around. I remember watching Iron Man 2 and laughing at her action sequences.

  7. Scarlett despises and HATES the nickname Scar-Jo. That’s why she’s so angry in this clip and beating down fools.

  8. SCAR-JO! SCAR-JO! SCAR-JO! SCAR-JO! SCAR-JO STUNNA! ONE MORE TIME, ONE MORE TIME!!!!

  9. Ted S. says:

What, she didn’t strike a pose after she knocked down the bad guys like she did in Iron Man 2? I’m gonna have to pass on this then.

Just kidding, Scar-Jo looks yummy in that scene. :)

  10. Dave Enkosky says:

I generally don’t care for Scarlett; I find her a little too unemotive. But I think it really works for her in this scene.

I think I just soiled myself

  12. Jaina says:

I didn’t care so much for Scar-Jo’s Black Widow, but I’m warming up to her. Joss Whedon + strong female characters = win to me!

  13. Momo says:

These bad guys need to take Bad Guys 101 again. Who the heck doesn’t tie the hostage feet to the chair? Pffff.

    • Castor says:

Why tie the hostage’s feet to the chair when she can rise the chair off the floor and slip the knots under to free herself?

      • Momo says:

Although I have never been tied to a chair myself, I have a hard time imagining how you can rise the chair off the floor if both your feet are tied to the chair? She could maybe hop a couple centimeters up. Moreover, you tie your knots tight and use a chair with a larger circumference at the end duh ;)

        • Castor says:

In retrospect, there is a solution to everything. But sadly for you, I already killed you with that wrench your colleague was threatening me with.

          • Momo says:

In the real world, you would have been shot dead on the spot, not attacked by some dude with a wrench (of all the things they could be holding).

  14. Andrew says:

Awesome. Clark Gregg just being Clark Gregg. Also: boobs.

  15. Lindsay says:

Errrr I really want to like this clip more! The setup and everything was great but that little hair flip / hit maneuver she does kind of kills it. Black Widow is one of the biggest reasons I’m excited to see The Avenger so maybe I was expecting a little more. But after her awesome scene in Iron Man 2 I’m really looking forward to what she can do.
