Across The Atlantic: Fourteenth Edition, 11th May 2012

The next big release for UK and European audiences is Ridley Scott’s Prometheus which is due to hit cinemas on the 1st June and after the recent international trailer premiere which aired exclusively on Channel 4, who isn’t anticipating its release? But, just before we dig our claws into the new horror from Scott, the broadcasting watchdog is investigating the Channel 4 over the trailer promotion and whether editorial boundaries were blurred.

Irish actress Joyce Redman, who was Oscar-nominated for Othello and Tom Jones, has died aged 96. [BBC]

Ofcom is investigating Channel 4 over whether  they “blurred the lines between between advertising and editorial,” after they aired the new Prometheus trailer, which was preceeded by a channel voice-over telling movie-goers to buy your tickets now. [Guardian]

Alan Partridge co-writer Armando Iannucci says the film adaptation of the fantastic television show, which stars Steve Coogan as Norfolk’s favourite radio talk-show host, will begin filming this year. [Guardian]

Sarah Hawkins, who exploded onto the scene when she played Poppy in Mike Leigh’s Happy-Go-Lucky, has been chosen to have a starring role in Woody Allen’s next film. [Guardian]

First trailer is up for Plan B’s (also known as Ben Drew) directorial debut entitled Ill Manors. [Guardian]

The UK’s largest independent cinema chain Apollo is close to concluding a deal with the cinema chain Vue. [Independent]

Not only has he got Alan Partridge and The King of Soho coming up in his acting pipeline, but Steve Coogan has now signed on for Despicable Me 2. [Empire]

Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans, who concocted the amazing Indonesian film The Raid, has been offered the opportunity to direct Breaking The Bank, a true-life story about former Mixed Martial Arts fighter Lightening Lee Murray (right) who was a part of the gang which created and took part in the biggest cash robbery in British history. Prometheus has been given a 15 certificate by the British Board of Film Classification. [Empire]

Filming will begin on The World’s End this September. Also, Simon Pegg revealed on Twitter the synopsis for the film: “20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End.” Beautiful. Nick Frost has released a few details about his upcoming film Cuban Fury, which he says originated from the fact that he tried to create a “romantic comedy with fiery salsa at its heart.” [TotalFilm]

Doctor Who is expected to premiere the first episode of the new season at the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival. But there is still no news on an air date for British television. [BleedingCool]

    Hadn’t heard that stuff about Channel 4, Ofcom and Prometheus. Very interesting. Going to have to keep an eye on that story! Very pleased to hear it’s not going to be rated PG though!

    • Cheers for the kind words, hopefully I’ll get us some more info from ‘The World’s End’ this weekend as I’m going to the Kapow Comic Covention which Nick Frost is due to attend (hell, I’d take just one sentence of new information from Frost!).
