James Badge Dale Will Play Eric Savin in ‘Iron Man 3′
The cast of Iron Man 3 continues to grow as director Shane Black’s production is gearing up to start shooting next month. Variety reports that James Badge Dale (The Pacific) is the latest actor to join the third installment of the Iron Man franchise.
The actor is set to take on the role Eric Savin, also known as Coldblood. In the Marvel universe, Savin is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army put in charge of Project: Ultra. After he steps on a land mine, cybernetic surgery is performed on him, and Savin’s resurrected as the cyborg Coldblood.
While there is few details on the plot of Iron Man 3, we do know that it will be based in one way or another on the storyline of Warren Ellis’ Extremis series in which a newly engineered nanotechnology leads to the spread of a virus. Kingsley is set to play the main antagonist while Guy Pearce and Rebecca Hall will play scientists Aldrich Killian and Maya Hansen respectively.
I’m impressed by Shane Black’s casting so far and Dale should be another excellent addition to the fantastic cast. I really hope Iron Man 3 will wash the bad taste from the underwhelming second installment of the franchise. Dale will next be seen in Robert Zemeckis’ Flight and in World War Z alongside Brad Pitt.
What do you think? Are you a fan of James Badge Dale?

Just as long as it doesn’t get too silly like the last film.
What? You didn’t like Tony Stark duking it out with Don Cheadle?
Sounds like this character will actually be the one who goes mano-a-mano with Iron Man. I’ve never read any of Iron Man comics but a friend of mine who read all of them said this character could be cool on the big screen. He’s sort of like Robocop on steroid.
I was very disappointed with IM2 too but it sort of grew on me the last couple of times I watched it. Let’s hope Shane Black can deliver a more fun and action pack picture next summer.
Yea I might go and rent Iron Man 2 just because I really liked RDJ in The Avengers. Yea, not sure what they are trying to do with Eric Savin. Maybe he will play a second antagonist or maybe they are just introducing him.
Been a fan of James Badge Dale since he appeared in 24 waay back in season 3. He’s done really well since with The Pacific and Rubicon (which was one of my favourite of the shows from AMC – sad it got canned). Sounds like a good, solid character. Along with Rebecca Hall’s casting, this is shaping up nicely. Ben Kingsley notwithstanding.
You don’t like Ben Kingsley?
I’m assuming that they’re going to be synthesizing Coldblood’s origin with the Extremis storyline, since that’s already been suggested as being part of the film’s story. Coldblood’s pretty obscure, which either means someone at Marvel is on peyote or they’re trying to make something meaningful out of the failed character.
Cool to see James Badge Dale here, though. He had a great moment with Neeson in The Grey.
Yea never heard of the character and even his wikipedia page seemed pretty obscure lol
I thought he was real solid in the Pacific but that is the extent of my knowledge of him as an actor.
I’ve always wanted to watch The Pacific but just never made time for it. How does it compare with Band of Brothers?
Hi, Castor:
‘The Pacific’ is on a broader spectrum than ‘Band of Brothers’. With a lot less brotherhood between the Marines fighting battles that helped take islands in the South Pacific. Backed up with LOTS of sloppily executed CGI in its later episodes.
Its in the same ball park with ‘Band of Brothers’ in regard to the personal gear and equipment used at that time and the hardships faced and changing tactics, but not a whole lot more.
Never heard of him, but it doesn’t matter as I watch Iron Man for RDJ
What? he is the the guy who plasters LEonardo DiCaprio’s brain all over the elevator in The Departed!!!
