Mads Mikkelsen Set to Play a Villain in ‘Thor 2′
Perhaps best known stateside for being the bad guy in Casino Royale, the awesome Mads Mikkelsen is set to take on the role of another baddie as Variety reports the Danish actor has signed on for Marvel’s Thor 2. There is no detail on the mysterious character he will play but we do know Tom Hiddleston will still have a significant role as Loki.
At any rate, we do know Mikkelsen is an outstanding actor who has put up some remarkable performances in movies such as Nicolas Winding Refn’s Valhalla Rising and Pusher II as well as Susanne Bier’s After the Wedding. He joins returning stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, and Idris Elba in what should be an anticipated continuation of the first film. Here is what producer Kevin Feige had to say to Collider about where the movie will pick in relation to The Avengers:
Look, the way The Avengers is constructed, not a lot of time passes over the course of the movie and whether it’s Cap or Thor on the ground in the States here in modern day, they don’t have a lot of time to deal to deal with their own stories, they’ve gotta deal with the stories of The Avengers. So while the relationship between Loki and Thor certainly has changed and has progressed, a lot of Thor 2 is picking up where it left off in terms of Jane, who you just saw for a moment on a computer monitor, and also what’s been going on in the nine realms without the Asgardians being able to use the Bifrost? I will just say it’s not good.
So do you have any idea who Mikkelsen could be playing? Speculate away in the comments!

I hope this will be better than the sequel though I did like Thor. I’m just wondering how it can live up to the brilliance made by The Avengers. And are there going to be any cameos from anyone from the Avengers?
I kinda liked Thor but yea, I hope it’s a lot more memorable and builds from The Avengers.
I think it’d be awesome if he was reprising his role as One-eye from Valhalla Rising. That was a Viking film right? So Loki could have just went back in time and picked him up. #Wishfulthinking
Ahaha yea, that would be totally awesome but 99% of people would have no idea about the reference.
True. I was totally mesmerized by the surreality of “Vahalla Rising”. However, I understand that the common moviegoer wouldn’t get the film at all. You can’t plung right in to a film like that. You need to have some real movie-watching experience to enjoy it. I think it’s a real gem though.
Also, his dialogue delivery was always perfect in “Valhalla Rising”. Didn’t flub a single syllable.
I think he is a good choice for a baddy!!
Indeed!
He’s a great choice, if you ask me. Hiddleston’s been solid, but as we all know, he’s merely mischievous. Thor needs a worthy adversary, and I’m guessing Mikkelsen is the type that could bring true intimidation to the thunder god.
That would be fantastic! He is very charismatic.
Yea, always fun to see him on screen.
Mads just sooo typecast, but at the same time I think he’d make a great baddie. I mean, after Hiddleston, we need another charismatic villain so he definitely fits the bill!
Well, that’s Hollywood for ya. Cast the foreign actors into baddie roles…
Whoever he’ll be playing, he’ll make a decent villain. It’s all he seems to be getting cast as these days! Ah well..
The fact that he’s getting cast, even if it isn’t as the villain, is great. Shoot, he would’ve have been a good choice for one of Thor’s friends.
Big news in Mad Mikkelson world. He’s also just been cast as “Hannibal” in the new tv series about Hannibal Lecter.
