Must Watch: Trailer for ‘The Gangster Squad’
Warner Bros. has debuted the first trailer for director Ruben Fleischer‘s crime drama The Gangster Squad. The film stars Sean Penn as mob king Mickey Cohen, a ruthless gangster who runs the entire city of Los Angeles, including the cops and politicians under his control. Determined to bring him down is a small, secret task-force spearheaded by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling).
Beyond the great-looking cast and the seemingly slick style of filmmaking we are glimpsing in the trailer, it’s tough to know what to expect from this movie. Rather than being a straight dramatic thriller, it seems that Fleischer (Zombieland) is trying to add some rather B-movie elements to the proceedings. Is it why Warner Bros. has withdrawn the film’s original release date?
At any rate, I’m still quite excited for this movie, if only for Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Hopefully, we will get a better feel of how this will play out as we get nearer to the film’s release.

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “The Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.

For a minute there I thought it was a John Woo’s film with all those slow-mo and shoot out sequences.
Or Zack Snyder, noooo Zack Snyder please.
All I can say is…. OOOOOHHHHHH YEAH!!!
Did Nick Nolte die five years before filming this?
LOL his voice is definitely getting more and more peculiar as the years go by.
Kind of looks like a video game at times but dream cast so I’m there.
Yea my thoughts Mac
Emma Stone arrrrrhggggghh!
She’s rocking that look!
The Gos is there, looking faiiinneee. What more do I need to watch a film?
But I like the other people too, so I’m so there.
This definitely has potential. Zombieland was great fun. I like the Fleischer’s direction with this one and the cast is top notch!
Yea, I’m not sure that kind of direction will work with the material though. Zombieland was an over-the-top comedy, this is supposedly based on a true story or something.
It seems like it has been far too long without my Man Crush on screen!!
Everyone is looking quite handsome in those suits!
Looks good! I hope Fleischer will bring it this time!
Fun trailer, awesome cast. I’m in.
Hi, Castor and company:
Looks like a live action adaptation of the First Person Shooter, ‘L.A. Noire’ mixed with the earlier, ‘Mulholland Falls’ and television’s short lived ‘The Hat Squad’.
The cast reflects this. Though, I’m not much of a Sean Penn fan. Nick Nolte has the
reputation of pulling the plow with whatever role he’s given. Could be interesting for Emma Stone in a dramatic role.
Yea, this actually kind of reminded me of the game Max Payne in how the movie is shot. Kinda weird how video-game-ish it looks.
Sean Penn doesn’t look like Sean Penn here. It’s kind of creepy. It’s nice to see Gosling and Stone renew their romance from Crazy, Stupid, Love. They seem to have a great chemistry together.
Yea he wore some prosthetic, kind of like Joseph Gordon Levitt in Looper.
Well I don’t understand why Penn have to wear stupid fake looking makeup to play his character? Am I missing something because I’ve never heard of a Mickey Cohen
Rap music… in this trailer?? Way out of place Hollywood.
This is a great trailer. I hope the movie is at least as good.
I think I’m the only one who’s just meh about the cast. The trailer doesn’t really do it for me either.
You know, the trailer is slick and the film looks stylish, the cast is great, and I liked Zombieland, but I really can’t drum up a ton of anticipation for this. I’m just wondering what this version of The Untouchables will bring to the table and why I should be psyched for it.
