Ryan Reynolds May Star in ‘Highlander’ Reboot
Hollywood has been trying for years to push Ryan Reynolds as the next hot leading star but to little avail so far. Green Lantern was a major box office and critical bomb while arty fare Buried went basically unnoticed two years ago. Even the unexpected success of Safe House earlier this year could be attributed more to Denzel Washington’s presence than Reynolds’ star power.
So is Ryan Reynolds truly an A-list star? It seems that the answer remains a no but Lionsgate will give it another shot as Variety reports that the actor is circling the lead role in the Highlander reboot. Christopher Lambert notoriously starred in the original 1986 film (wow, what happened to the guy?) and those of you old enough may also remember Adrian Paul playing the immortal swordsman in the TV series.
Reynolds certainly has shown that he can handle a blade or two, as shown in X-Men Origins: Wolverine but the trade cautions that he isn’t locked in on the role as of yet. While I kinda liked the TV series as a kid, a Highlander movie has always sounded a bit crummy to me so I’m not sure it would be a wise choice for Reynolds. Either way, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) is set to direct and it looks like we could this remake sooner rather than later.
The Canadian actor is set to star alongside Reese Witherspoon in Big Eyes. He recently wrapped up shooting R.I.P.D. alongside Jeff Bridges.

As a fan, i would rather him stay away from this and find something more intriguing to star in
Yea this sounds like it could be pretty crummy.
Ryan Reynolds in “Highlander”.
FUCK OFF!!!!
Give me Christopher Lambert any day of the week.
lol I wonder what happened to Christopher Lambert. He just kind of disappeared.
Fan of Ryan Reynolds but why on Earth are they rebooting this franchise? Wasn’t it kind of, shitty?
Well, if done right. It could pretty awesome and profitable as a franchise. But more than likely, it’s going to be terrible.
They should not call it Highlander; no reboot necessary.
First movie and TV were fun. Subsequent films were niche at best.
Genre okay, but new story needed; no more “there can be only one.”
Reynolds isn’t right for this role in my opinion;
his career will be better if he stays away from this part.
Yea Reynolds doesn’t need that at this point in his career. Maybe he will wise up and stay away after all these recent busts he’s had!
Highlander w/ Ryan Reynolds?? Heh, first a French now American playing a Scot, obviously Gerry Butler and Ewan McGregor are too busy to do this movie
Ahaha, well GB is probably wise to stay far away from this
Well not wise enough apparently, I mean he’s starring in that epic 3D Baghdad movie with Matthew McCoughnahey and Sam Worthington. Grrrrr!!!
I actually saw all of the Highlander movies, yeah the sequels were awful but somehow I enjoyed the heck out of them. I do remember watching the TV show too, it was fun and forgettable.
If this reboot looks cool, I’ll probably go see it. I can’t resist seeing people get hack to pieces with a sword.
Yea, I used to watch the TV show from time to time. Pretty bad stuff in retrospective but fun in that 90′s kind of way. Doubt I would watch this though.
Why did you say Christopher Lambert “notoriously” starred in the first film? Was he really that bad in it?
