Thrilla on the Twitta
You might have heard there was a recent dust-up on Twitter (as William Shakespeare once wrote: “The Twitter. The Twitter all around us, governs our conditions”) when Samuel L. Jackson took to task New York Times chief film critic A.O. Scott for his review of Jackson’s latest film……something called (consulting my notes) The Avengers. I think it might have made a bit of bank recently.
Anyway, Jackson had initially landed this hardcore haymaker: “”#Avengers fans, NY Times critic AO Scott needs a new job! Let’s help him find one! One he can ACTUALLY do!” The Film Nest came to Scott’s defense – “Disappointed to hear @SamuelLJackson respond irrationally to negative review of #Avengers. People aren’t entitled to their own opinion?” – which then prompted Jackson to land a severe body blow: “That is My Opinion! @TheFilmNest & what’s irrational about it? They aren’t going to fire his jaundiced ass & You & I Know It!” (It seems Mr. Jackson’s trash-talking skills aren’t quite the same when he doesn’t have Quentin Tarantino writing the screenplay for him.)
Being roughly the 4,227th media outlet to weigh in on this magnum force throwdown, I have nothing to say other than this…
A.O. Scott was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 2010 for Criticism “for his incisive film reviews that, with aplomb, embrace a wide spectrum of movies and often explore their connection to larger issues in society or the arts.”
According to IMDB, Samuel L. Jackson “Has the rare distinction of having played characters that have been eaten by both a shark and a dinosaur.”
That is all.
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS TWITTER MAGNUM FORCE THROWDOWN?! LET IT BE KNOWN BELOW!

HAHA Hilarious!
Thank you! I’m just reporting facts.
A certain Nick Prigge just landed Samuel Jackson in intensive care
I don’t want to respond for fear that Samuel L. Jackson will find me and put a cap in my ass.
I have no sympathy for entertainers who can’t take negative criticism. It comes with the job damm it.Leave it or get out
Very true. Especially when Scott’s criticism wasn’t even all that harsh.
Jackson really ought to have kept his mouth shut; he might be his own brand but speaking about The Avengers means he’s ultimately representing Marvel’s, and that’s an unbelievably unprofessional way to act. That’s even ignoring the fact that A.O. Scott is A.O. Fucking Scott; he’s contributed more to his profession than Jackson has to his own.
If we were talking about some random terrible scrub critic, I don’t know if I would care quite as much. It wouldn’t be any less unprofessional, but at least Jackson would be shitting on somebody who isn’t good at their job. But A.O. Scott? Really? That’s just dumb.
“A.O. Scott is A.O. Fucking Scott.”
A-MEN.
Much ado about nothing

Yeah I think SLJ should chill out a bit… or a lot. I mean seriously??! I didn’t think he’s all that memorable in the Avengers anyway. I kind of prefer someone like Laurence Fishburn as Nick Fury.
I have Ed Harris in mind.
Meh. But in a smackdown cage match, AO Scott is no match for Samuel “Jules” Jackson!
Now, now, Samuel L. Jackson has the strength and likely the speed but A.O. Scott could outmaneuver him with verbal dexterity.
Chill Sam… it’s just a critique. Unless it’s by some idiot like Ben Lyons and you can pretty much make that little shit piss his pants.
arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics…
Haha, love that final line. I think that sums up the side of the fence in which you reside. If it was a personal passion project written, directed and starring Jackson then I can understand his preciousness. But I think the huge pay check, and many more before it, would soften the blow of a critic’s bad review. Still, it is good publicity for the film.
And he is in a freaking I-Phone ad!
A.O. Scott dismissed the genre out of hand in his review. It would be one thing if he took The Avengers to task for poor filmmaking, but he just does not like comic book films. Period.
