First Look at Idris Elba in Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’
Possibly the most exciting film to come out this year is Guillermo del Toro’s science-fiction epic, Pacific Rim. We now have the first image (from the latest issue of Total Film) of star Idris Elba in full costume.
The film recently wrapped shooting and centers on mankind’s fight against humongous creatures, known as Kaiju, in a war that took millions of lives and consumed humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.
But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
The picture really doesn’t show much aside from how handsome Elba looks but expect the movie to be epic on every scale with del Toro recreating parts of Tokyo and Hong Kong only to reduce them to rubbles. Is that the alien armor from Battleship?
Shhhhh… Don’t tell everyone that Pacific Rim is just ‘Battleship’ seen from the eyes of the “aliens”!
I don’t have an opinion at the moment. I’ll say something once the trailer comes out.
Yea, hard to tell what it will look like but I’m excited mostly because Del Toro is coming back on the big screen.
I’m really happy Idris has been doing so well lately. He was one of the best performers on The Wire.
Charismatic fella. I wanted him for Django Unchained.

I kinda chuckled when I saw this but I love me some Idris, so he gets a pass.
Looks like a film version of Crysis. I like it!
It’s a great shot, but one that tells us nothing about the meat of the movie. It just proves that Elba’s a good-lookin’ man who is dashing in anything he wears.
Oooh, lookin’ good Mr. Idris, he’s just one gorgeous man. I just rewatched some scenes of Rocknrolla, love him as Mumbles. Man, that movie has an awesome cast, I mean my Gerry, Idris, Tom Hardy, Tom Wilkinson, wowsers!
