Samuel L. Jackson & Abbie Cornish in Talks for ‘Robocop’

Director Jose Padilha (Elite Squad: The Enemy Within) is starting to fill up the cast for his remake of Robocop. We already know that The Killing star Joel Kinnaman will take on the titular role while Gary Oldman will play the scientist who brings Robocop to life.

But here comes word that Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) and Abbie Cornish (W.E.) are in discussion to co-star in the film. Jackson would take on the character of a charismatic TV mogul who is a powerful force in the Robocop world while Cornish has been offered the lead female role of Kinnaman’s widow.

I wasn’t quite enamored with the idea of remaking Robocop with but this is quite the impressive cast and it will be interesting to see how this remake will diverge from Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 original movie. I really enjoyed both Elite Squad and Elite Squad: The Enemy Within so this should be in good hands. Filming is set to begin in September.

What do you think?

  1. Let’s just hope it’s a remake that is worth it.

  2. Pete says:

Love the director but this is a totally pointless remake. Cool casting so far though. Quietly optimistic but wish Hollywood would spend more money on original films. Even sequels are more exciting than remakes of already great films.

    • Castor says:

Indeed Pete. I don’t really see the point either but it turns out great and brings Robocop to a generation of people who never saw the original.

  3. Dave Enkosky says:

Unrelated to the topic, but Jackson is starting to look old to me.

  4. i love samuel l jackson so i love this news. i am not aware of abbie’s talent.

    • Castor says:

Haven’t seen Bright Star but I hear it’s her best performance to date. She was in Limitless also but that was just a generic female love interest role.

  5. Jaina says:

Like you, I pretty much brushed off the whole remake but the cast is pretty damn epic. It’s got my attention.

  6. Dan says:

I agree with Steven in regards to this being a pointless sequel. But Gary Oldman is in it so I’ll have to see it.
