Watch: Denzel Washington Lands a Plane Upside Down in First Trailer for ‘Flight’

Paramount has debuted the first trailer for director Robert Zemeckis’ Flight. In the movie, Denzel Washington stars as Whip Whitaker, a seasoned airline pilot who miraculously lands his plane after a midair collision, saving the lives of hundreds of passengers. But as more details emerge, Whitaker becomes the focus of the investigation about what truly happened on that plane.

Washington is always a draw on the silver screen and he has an outstanding supporting cast that includes Don Cheadle, John Goodman, Melissa Leo and Bruce Greenwood. However, this trailer borders on the obscenely ridiculous when you realize that John Gatins’ (Real Steel) screenplay has the disabled plane land upside-down. That’s right, you have to watch this to believe it…

In this action-packed mystery thriller, Academy Award winner Denzel Washington stars as Whip Whitaker, a seasoned airline pilot who miraculously crash-lands his plane after a mid-air catastrophe, saving nearly every soul on board. After the crash, Whip is hailed as a hero, but as more is learned, more questions than answers arise as to who or what was really at fault, and what really happened on that plane?

What is it with Denzel and public transportation?? First trains and now airplane!

  2. Pete says:

Got me curious. Strange tone. The music, John Goodman, almost seems like a light-hearted comedy. Except for the plane crashing stuff.

Yea, weird looking movie indeed. Not sure what to make of this trailer except that there doesn’t seem to be much in terms of substance.

    This has got my attention.

  6. Gibbs says:

I like that it focuses on the character but the premise sounds a bit thin. And yea, the whole plane landing upside down really is stretching the limits of credibility

  7. Dave Enkosky says:

I hope this is the start of a franchise in which Denzel lands various vehicles upside down.

    • Castor says:

The possibilities are endless. Taxis, motorcycles, buses, bike, golf carts, cruise ships, aircraft carriers. That’s a franchise right there.

  8. The trailer changed tone like 4 times. Doesn’t bode well imo

From this trailer, it looks a lot similar to Michael Crichton’s novel Airframe. I remember they were going to turn that book into a movie back in the late 90s but of course it never happened.

A lot of stuff from this trailer is so similar to that book. It’s nice to see Zemeckis back doing regular film again but this one is rental for me.
