First Look at Matt Damon in Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Elysium’

After his stunning directorial debut with District 9, Neill Blomkamp is looking to stay firmly in the realm of science fiction with his follow up, Elysium. The movie will be set in the year 2159 where two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth.

The first footage is set to premiere at Comic-Con next week but for now, we now have the first official look at Matt Damon (via EW‘s latest issue) wielding a humongous rifle. While it’s unclear what that’s all about, we do know he stars as Max, one of the unlucky Earthling who agrees to take on a dangerous mission that could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Elysium opens on March 1st, 2013 and also stars Jodi Foster, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner and Diego Luna.

If it doesn’t have Wikus I’m not interested.

Can’t friggin’ wait for this movie! So is Damon the lead actor now instead of Copley? I haven’t seen ANY pic of him yet. Like Packerken said, I’d love to see Wikus in this somehow, though I’ve been hearing this isn’t a sequel to D-9 but a similar sci-fi story.

  11. Pete says:

Sounds awesome! Hope the footage from Comic-Con hits the net soon!
