First Poster for Disney’s ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’
Disney has debuted a stunning teaser poster for Sam Raimi‘s Oz The Great and Powerful. James Franco stars as the titular character, a small-time circus magician who is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz where he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting.
Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must put his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry— slowly transforming himself into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz he is destined to be.
Expect to see more promotional material soon as the film will hit Comic-Con next week. Meanwhile, take a look at the poster below and let us know what you think! Oz The Great and Powerful opens March 8, 2013.
Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

I think it’s cool, and it encapsulates everything we know about the story. I will look forward to this.
Great poster, though I’ve never seen Wizard of Oz yet so I probably should see that one first before this one comes out, eh?
Ruth! You’ve never seen The Wizard of Oz?! I’m stunned. You should definitely see it sometime, girl!
uh… I have… never seen the Wizard of Oz myself. Ruth and I should get together and watch it ah!
I’m so looking forward to this movie.
It certainly sounds very intriguing and the cast is pretty damn awesome.
Great cast and stunning poster. Think I’ll put this in my “looking forward to” pile.
Next to Harold & Kumar 4!
I don’t like it, looks so much like something out of cartoonish and tacky Alice in Wonderland by Burton. And Franco being in the cast doesn’t seem encouraging either.
I was thinking of Tim Burton too lol. I’m just glad he is not involved in any shape or form. Then this thing has a chance.
This is exciting. Digging the idea of James Franco being the wizard, and the poster looks pretty cool too. The only “ehh” thing for me is that it’s Disney.
I don’t know about Franco. He hasn’t really convinced me outside of 127 Hours and that’s a whole different type of movie.
Interesting – Franco as Oz should be something else. In spite of the fact that Oz is indelibly the codgery Frank Morgan in my mind.
