Johnny Depp to Star in Wes Anderson’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’
After directing the utterly delightful Moonrise Kingdom to arthouse box office success, director Wes Anderson isn’t resting on his laurels as he is looking to assemble another terrific ensemble cast for his next feature, The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Just last week, rumor had it that frequent Anderson collaborators Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Adrien Brody and Edward Norton were circling roles in the movie along with Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, , Willem Dafoe, Angela Lansbury and Johnny Depp. Well, Deadline has just learned that the latter is now set to star in the film.
Needless to say, this is fantastic news for all involved. First off, it means that a new Wes Anderson movie can’t be too far away from hitting theaters. And this could also do wonder for Depp’s flagging career which has seen the actor appear in recent bombs such as The Rum Diary, Dark Shadows and the much reviled The Tourist.
About a week ago, we heard that writer/director Wes Anderson was eyeing a top-notch ensemble cast for his next untitled feature, with stars like Johnny Depp, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Edward Norton, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe and Angela Lansbury apparently being eyed for roles.
While I absolutely despised The Royal Tenenbaums, I was smitten by the whimsical nature of Moonrise Kingdom and I can’t wait to see what Anderson has in store next. Depp is currently shooting the The Lone Ranger for Disney.

Castor, how can you dislike The Royal Tenenbaums?
agreed whats up with that? Did you have game closet envy? lol
I guess it was hipster overdose for me. Maybe I will give it another try down the road but for now, I’m more interested in seeing Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Darjeeling Limited
I think I just soiled myself.
And you only own one set of underwear. And you have to go work. Now.
I’m with you on Royal Tenenbaums, Castor. It was fine, but just too hip for me. Sad that I missed out on Moonrise Kingdom at the cinemas though
This sounds like great news for Depp. I can’t remember the last Depp film I really enjoyed. Oh…Rango. Does that count?
Ah! Finally someone who also didn’t like The Royal Tenenbaums!
I can’t even say I enjoyed Rango but no, it doesn’t count.
