“Good science by matter of definition allows for a difference of opinion, otherwise you merely have the will of one man, which is the basis of cult.” Tom Cruise won’t be pleased… A striking new trailer for director Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master has hit the web and you can watch it below.
Joaquin Phoenix stars as a drifter who comes under the magnetic influence of Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman), a charismatic World War II veteran who creates his own religion. The film is said to be based on L. Ron Hubbard’s creation of Scientology and given what we see in the trailer, well… it’s a fact.
The most surprising revelation from this preview is that Phoenix is going to be front and center the man of the show. Most would have thought the film would center on Hoffman’s character but it looks like it won’t be the case. At any rate, this is going to be an acting clinic with seemingly strong performances across the board and it looks like the visuals will be terrific as you would expect from PTA.
