Must Watch: Moody First Teaser for ‘The Man of Steel’

Warner Bros. has debuted a terrific teaser trailer for director Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel. As you probably already know, Henry Cavill stars as the titular character with the likes of Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Coster and Russell Crowe also part of the cast.

I really love this teaser because it doesn’t feature your usual cut of action scenes, explosions and superhero in tight. Instead, it builds anticipation by focusing on the main character’s journey with a moody, poetic tone. That’s how it’s done folks. I went from not even looking forward to the movie to being hopeful that it’s going to be something special. And is everyone trying to replicate Terrence Malick? That’s hilarious.

Just so you know, there is two slightly different versions of the previews. One of them is narrated by Pa Kent (Costner) while the other is narrated by Jor-El (Crowe).

Watch the teasers for yourself below (via Yahoo!) Man of Steel opens on June 14th, 2013. Hit the jump to watch the teaser.

First 3/4 of that trailer reminded more of “Tree of Life” than Superman.

I saw this in front of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ screening I attended yesterday. It was the Costner one. Thanks for cluing in me to the one done by Crowe. Very cool.

I had the Costner one before both my TDKR screenings, but I like the Crowe one better. Good to see that they stuck with the Lord of the Rings music for both of them, which sent chills down my spine when I heard that first note. *cry* Gandalf…. *cry*

I have high hopes for this movie.

I am soooo psyched for this movie, Castor. As you know I’ve loved Cavill for a long time and he’s just so perfect for Supes. GREAT trailer indeed, yes THIS is how it’s done, bringing the ‘humanity’ to the most powerful superhero, but without forgoing what makes us go see a Superman movie, the flying sequence!! I get goosebumps watching him create that sonic boom! And that LOTR music is very appropriate considering where the scene that score appears in.

      YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

Haha, you and me are on the same page Castor. I wasn’t crazy about this film and then it started and I was like “Holy Shit, this looks good.” I also caught a Terrence Malick vibe too. Very good teaser.

Yea, this got me amped up really quick ahah :D

Methinks it looks okay. Can’t wait for the full trailer.

As I went to a preview of TDKR I didn’t get to see this… so thanks. I am actually more excited than I thought I would be now!

  8. I dont know Cap, now you’ve got me torn.

I appreciate what you’re saying, plus its just a teaser. But at this point (And I saw the extended exclusive trailer at Comic-Con that DID show the fights, explosions, etc) I still dont feel we’ve been shown anything. I guess that that’s part of the point of a teaser… just to give you a taste.

It definitely does seem as though it will be more thoughtful, which is good. Cause “Returns” was horrifying.

The Malick influence is definitely there. But it’s definitely just an “influence”, which is pretty refreshing. This doesn’t look like anything Snyder has done before, and while I grant that we’re talking about only a minute and change of footage overlaid by even more minute voice-overs, the aesthetic here has very much gotten me interested in a film I otherwise cared little and less about.

At first, when I saw this at the theater, I thought it was a trailer for the Perfect Storm 2. I was never a huge Super Man fan growning up, he always seemed like a bit of a square to me. However, the cast and director combo has me hopeful that this is going to be decent.

I saw a bootleg of that comicon trailer, that looked a bit more eventful. Of course they pulled that off youtube faster than Lindsay Lohan would snort a line.
