Must Watch: Epic New Trailer for ‘The Hobbit’

After a new batch of pictures were released yesterday, we receive yet another gift from Peter Jackson and company for Tolkien week. Another full trailer has been released, and it’s simply marvelous. Focusing more on the comedy aspect of the film, as well as the storyline, this trailer is the perfect compliment to the more poetic previous trailer. If you are like me, almost all doubts about this film are now gone (still questioning how a proper ending will be done). It’s obvious that Jackson is well on his way to delivering yet another magnificent fantasy adventure, and might’ve outdone himself with the special effects.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens up in theaters on December 14.

“The Hobbit” follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever … Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

  1. How freaking awesome does that trailer look? I’m telling you, these movies are going to be awesome. Just as good as LotR. My money is on the “Super Awesome” bet.

It’s just so pretty! Can not wait.

  3. Please, don’t let this be like The Lovely Bones.

  4. Andrew says:

Looks good, but it doesn’t really do anything to step up the marketing and anticipation; it looks exactly how you’d expect a second Hobbit trailer to look, namely wonderful. The one thing it does do is establish tone, so anyone worried that the film wouldn’t be faithful to the timbre of the novel should be relieved.

It looks like fun, but a bit more silly and kid-friendly for my taste. Freeman is perfectly cast, though, I’m sure he will be amazing!

  6. Castor says:

This looks horrendous. Like Journey to the Mysterious Island 3 with Hobbits!

  7. Dan says:

Only me that thinks it looks like off-cuts from Lord of the Rings?

  8. Jaina says:

The trailer definitely gives it more of an action/adventure vibe than anything else. I’m sure it’s part of the mass marketing that it’s trying to aim at. Which is fine. Looks like a fun ride, Counting the days until I can go back to Middle Earth.

I do find it funny how none of the trailers have really made a point of the new 3D-ness of it all.
