Must Watch: Phenomenal Trailer for Jackie Robinson Biopic ’42′ with Chadwick Boseman & Harrison Ford
Warner Bros. has debuted the first trailer for the Jackie Robinson biopic 42 and it looks phenomenal. Newcomer Chadwick Boseman stars as Robinson, the baseball legend who was the first African-American baseball player in Major League’s history. The movie depicts his rise to fame and his struggle along with Brooklyn Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford) to break down racial segregation in baseball.
Let me just state that film biopics have been less and less appealing to me over the years because their subject matters aren’t all that intriguing to start with. This is definitely not the case here as Jackie Robinson is a true American legend and one of the most fascinating personality of the 20th century. Boseman looks to be a true breakout star in this film and even the rusty Harrison Ford is almost unrecognizable in this. I love the period look that Brian Helgeland (LA Confidential) was able to recreate for this movie and I can’t wait to check this out when it hits theater on April 12th, 2013.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures are teaming up with director Brian Helgeland for “42,” the powerful story of Jackie Robinson, the legendary baseball player who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he joined the roster of the Brooklyn Dodgers. “42″ will star Academy Award(R) nominee Harrison Ford (“Witness”) as the innovative Dodger’s general manager Branch Rickey, the MLB executive who first signed Robinson to the minors and then helped to bring him up to the show, and Chadwick Boseman (“The Express”) as Robinson, the heroic African American who was the first man to break the color line in the big leagues.

Lots of baseball films at the moment. Im not complaining! Looks good.
Lots… Like one a year ahah
Definitely has the period look down. I just hope the movie ends up doing Jackie justice
And for me the reason why i haven’t been a big biopic guy lately isn’t because of the choices in subject, but because of how they’ve been made. I think a good biopic should work regardless of who its about.
Yea totally true Julian and biopics are just so formulaic most of the time. By definition, you should really get to know the person the biopic is about but they always feel so passionless and distant. Hopefully, it won’t be the case here.
Saw this trailer on Friday night. And yeah, it looks good. But……
I’m still a little worried. The trailer is high on style, low on content. For as cool as it looks, this could still just end up being yet another in the endless assembly line of by the book biopics. There is nothing here to suggest one way or the other. That said, I’ve got my fingers crossed. Jackie Robinson deserves a great movie.
Yea there is no way to tell until we get to watch the movie though. But isn’t that true for 99% of movie trailers?
True. Very true. It’s just because I’ve essentially lost all faith in the biopic in recent years. That’s what truly frightens me.
