Seth MacFarlane Will Host the 85th Academy Awards Ceremony
After getting the likes of Hugh Jackman, James Franco, Anne Hathaway, Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin, and Billy Crystal to put Oscar viewers to sleep in recent years, it looks like the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is finally getting bolder. Family Guy creator and Ted director Seth MacFarlane has officially been announced as the host of the 85th Annual Academy Awards.
In a statement, MacFarlane said: “It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars. My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen roast.”
This is easily the most exciting Oscar host selection in many a blue moon and it’s actually quite hard to believe. MacFarlane is no doubt one funny man and he will likely ruffle some feathers come Oscar night. However, very few people would actually recognize him since he almost never steps in front of the camera.
At any rate, I can definitely get behind this guy. The 85th Annual Academy Awards will be televised on February 24, 2013. Here is MacFarlane’s video response to the news:

If you told me that was Martin Mull playing his father, you could’ve fooled me.
I saw MacFarlane speak where I work a few years ago, when Family Guy was just coming back to Fox, and he was hilarious. And he was very candid. I’m a fan.
Never was a fan of Family Guy, but him of all people being picked seems oddly interesting.
For as much as I’m not a fan of a HUGE chunk of his output, I do think MacFarlane’s a talented guy. I don’t know, this could be an interesting choice– maybe he’ll actually get people to watch the Oscars/make them entertaining.
I have a feeling the Academy won’t let him be as edgy as he wants to be
Just my opinion tho
I think it’s a good choice.
Interesting choice. Not that it’ll make the Oscars themselves a more interesting ceremony to watch. Well, apart from the MacFarlane moments. I’ll still just catch the highlights the following day!
