Jamie Foxx to Play Electro in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′
As Marc Webb and Sony continue to mastermind the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man and the eventual death of Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy, they have apparently settled on the film’s villain. Variety reports that Jamie Foxx is in talks to star as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Folks who have seen the first installment already know that the character appears in the post-credit teaser. Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained) is an inspired choice to take on the role and he would join an exciting cast that also includes The Descendants star Shailene Woodley who is slated to play Mary Jane Watson.
Electro is one of Spider-Man’s most well-known foe and appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #9 back in February 1964. He gained the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning while working on a power line. It will be interesting to see how the movie character will tie in with the comic book arc and whether he will have anything to do with the expected tragic death of Gwen Stacy.
Production on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will start next year for a scheduled May 2nd, 2014 release.

Well, Foxx can act. Amazing Spidey wasn’t the best comic book film of the year, by far, be interesting to see where they take this sequel…
Cool, so I can just ignore this when it hits theaters and possibly bother watching it on home release just so I can argue with the people who like it more than Raimi’s films.
I am looking forward to this! I did like it better than the Raimi’s films. So I hope that Webb’s second installment can hold up to what the first one did.
I’m not that glad for this news for several reasons. and none of them have to do with the fact that Jamie Foxx is black and Electro has traditionally been white in the comics. That’s fine by me. It worked for Nick Fury and the Kingpin.
My issues here are:
1-Electro is tricky and I’m not all too sold how they will use him. I had hoped they might do what the cartoon series did and make Electro the Red Skull’s son…thus tying the Spiderman and Avengers/Captain America storyline.
2- Was it really confirmed that the post-credits character was indeed Electro?
3- Jamie Foxx?? Jamie? please no.
time will tell. I had hoped that Webb would use a character that lays early foundation for the clone saga (aside from Norman Osborne), or perhaps the Chameleon or Kingpin. Kingpin would help tie in the hopeful Daredevil reboot. Electro leads to nowhere. He may eventually end up being the Raimi “Sandman” of the series.
As long as he doesn’t become the Venom, Sandman was one of the most engaging parts of Raimi’s third film.
and even THAT’S not saying much.
