Kristen Stewart in Talks to Star Opposite Ben Affleck in ‘Focus’
With the Twilight Saga set to conclude with the release of the last chapter of the franchise on November 16th, Kristen Stewart is coming to a career crossroad and looking to take the next step. Variety reports that Stewart is in talks to star opposite Ben Affleck in Warner Brothers’ Focus.
The film would center on a veteran con artist who becomes romantically involved with a newcomer to the grifter business. Naturally, being in a business of lying and cheating complicates their relationship when they meet once again down the road.
Glenn Ficarra and John Requa of Crazy Stupid Love wrote the script and are set to direct it. The filmmakers initially had their eyes on reuniting Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone but this obviously fell through. It’s notable to me that Ben Affleck is 18 years older than Stewart (yuck…) and yet no one will blink twice once the film starts rolling.
It remains to be seen whether the two will have any kind of on-screen chemistry but this sounds like a somewhat intriguing premise. Ben Affleck has done a tremendous job turning his career around but we still feel he is much better writing, directing and starring in his own films.
As for Stewart, it remains to be seen whether she will have any lasting legacy beyond the Twilight franchise. This and On The Road look to be steps in the right direction but I have yet to convinced…
What do you think?

Kristen Stewart could face the same issues the Harry Potter cast have faced in getting away from the roles they are so recognised for. So far I don’t think Stewart has really distinguished herself elsewhere.
I was really hoping that another actress would get the lead. Stewart really shouldn’t be playing a love interest for Affleck.
Unbelievable how this girl keeps getting work!!
I just don’t understand her appeal. She isn’t overly attractive. She has an attitude that causes me to have no sympathy for her characters. She isn’t particularly a good actress. She is one lucky gal.
Why couldn’t have they gotten an older and better actress? Kristen Stewart nowadays does a lot of dumb glances and digs her hand in her hair.
This would excite me if Affleck was directing her in Focus, but I don’t really have much faith in Ficarra or Requa to make them work together. (Or bring out anything interesting in Stewart.)
Ditto.
