New Look at Matt Damon in Neill Blomkamp‘s ‘Elysium’

Neill Blomkamp took Hollywood by storm in 2009 with his science-fiction blockbuster District 9 and he is coming back with another exciting-looking film next year. Elysium is set in the year 2159 where two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth.

Matt Damon stars as Max, a down-on-his-luck earthling who agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

We now have a new look at the star carrying some heavy weaponry below. The pic is fairly similar to the first one we showed you last summer but we will take anything at this point.

Check out the image below (via Screen Crush) and let us know what you think! Elysium hits theaters on August 9, 2013.

I love District 9 and all of Blomkamp’s shorts, so I have every confidence that he’s going to pull this off at the very least to my expectations. With that said…man the plot sounds tired. I won’t necessarily have a problem with it, but it’s going to have to be superbly executed.

Nice! But I also hope that Sharlto Copley gets some decent screen time. I originally thought he’d be the lead actor as he’s so great in District 9.

I also thought Sharlto was the lead…but it’s Matt Damon :( not that I dislike Matt but I prefer Sharlto more.

sighing at the generic plot…not sure if I want to see it if Sharlto isn’t in it.

Wow, bald really works for Damon.
