Anne Hathaway to Star in Adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘The Taming of the Shrew’
After winning a Golden Globe this past weekend for her work in Tom Hooper’s musical hit Les Miserables, Anne Hathaway is widely regarded as a near lock for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar next month. But it doesn’t look like she will be resting on her laurels as The Wrap reports that she is set to star in a modern retelling of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.
The 16th century has been one of Shakespeare’s most popular play, having been adapted to the silver screen multiple times, most recently in 1999 as the movie you may know as 10 Things I Hate About You. Abi Morgan (Shame) is said to handle the script although it’s unclear whether she would also make her directorial debut.
Hathaway was set to star opposite Chris Hemsworth in Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi Robopocalypse but it looks like the project has been postponed indefinitely. Otherwise, the actress has no upcoming project gearing up for production so The Taming of the Shrew could happen sooner rather than later.

Yet another Shakespeare adaptation? [yawn] That said I think she’d be good in this. She has comedic chops that’d work well for the story as well.
