Bradley Cooper to Topline Spy Thriller ‘Dark Invasion’

Bradley+Cooper+70th+Annual+Golden+Globe+AwardsBradley Cooper is seeing his star shine brighter and brighter with each passing week as his acclaimed performance in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook is opening new doors for him. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has signed Cooper to star in the period spy thriller Dark Invasion.

Adapted from Howard Blum’s upcoming historical novel, the film will take place in 1915 as World War I rages on in Western Europe. To prevent the United States from entering the war, Germany sent secret agents to carry out covert operations on American soil. Cooper will take on the role of NYPD Captain Tom Tunney, the man tasked with assembling a team to hunt down these spies.

This sounds quite familiar, especially given the fact that Gangster Squad is currently playing in theater (with little box office or critical success, shall we add). At any rate, the book will be released on September 11, 2013 so we might learn more then. It seems like this is a project that has just begun development so I wouldn’t expect anything anytime soon.

Cooper will next be seen in The Place Beyond The Pines on March 29th. Now that movie has me REALLY excited.

I think Cooper was good in Silver Linings Playbook but I’m still not a ‘fan.’ I’d rather see someone like Jason Clarke getting more roles. Yes I do have a penchant for Aussies ;)
