Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Star in ‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For,’ Turns Down ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’
Rising star Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one wanted man as Hollywood filmmakers attempt to draw him to their project. A few days ago, we heard word that he was circling a lead role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy but it appears he has turned down the part to star in Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.
Gordon-Levitt will take on the role of Johnny, a cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game. Interestingly enough, Johnny Depp was previously offered the role which is one of the main character in the film’s multiple narrative threads. JGL joins Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Jamie King, Rosario Dawson, Jamie Chung and Dennis Haysbert.
Word is that both Clive Owen and Bruce Willis are expected back to reprise their role from the first film while Josh Brolin (Gangster Squad) is circling another key role. Production is already underway with a release date set for October 4th.
To be perfectly honest, this looks like a much more fun and interesting role than anything Marvel has to offer. In the meantime, Gordon-Levitt is gearing up to premiere his directorial debut Don Jon’s Addiction at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival.
What do you think?

Glad to see him in such high demand. Not surprised he turned down Guardians of the Galaxy, I’d say give that role to more up-and-coming actors (Lee Pace is my first choice!). Can’t believe the Sin City sequel still hasn’t gotten off the ground yet.
It certainly will now!
I’m stoked that he’s going to be in the next Sin City film. Rodriguez and Miller need to redeem themselves. That last Spy Kids movie was lame and Miller’s The Spirit is definitely one of the worst films I had ever seen.
Wasn’t a massive fan of Sin City. Maybe it needs a second watch. Am happy to see JGL’s taken this rather than Guardians. Leaving it open for him to take on a certain caped crusader? Maybe
Yep, kinda figured. There’s no reason for him to take Guardians of the Galaxy when he already has ties to Justice League and/or any future Batman films; Sin City by its very nature seems like a much better compliment to his association with a much larger movie franchise.
