Chris Pratt to Star as Star-Lord in Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’
After months of speculations on who would take on the leading role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we now have word that Chris Pratt has landed the prized role. Deadline reports that the actor has been chosen over the likes of Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Lee Pace, and Eddie Redmayne.
Peter Quill/Star-Lord is a NASA astronaut born of a human mother and alien father. Wearing an ability-enhancing suit, he is a combat expert who becomes the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy and eventually teams up with the Avengers.
This casting decision somewhat makes sense given that Peter Gunn will direct the film. Pratt is obviously known for his comedic work on the NBC TV show Parks and Recreation and I would expect the movie to rely heavily on humor if only because of the eclectic cast of cosmic characters that includes a talking raccoon (Rocket Raccoon) and a plant monster (Groot).
Production is set to begin laster this year for a August 1, 2014 release so expect more casting news soon as the role of Drax the Destroyer, the aforementioned Rocket Raccoon and Groot, as well as the female lead Gamora are still up in the air.

Awesome. I’ll always be happy to see this guy get work, even if I haven’t totally broken my image of him as Andy Dwyer.
Meh! I’d rather see Lee Pace or his ZDT co-star Joel Edgerton instead. But then again I wish Lee would get a much more compelling franchise of his own soon.
I am excited for this! Not exactly something that would be on my radar, but I have increasingly become a fan of Pratt, and his quirky characters. Hopefully this will be fun!
