OMG! New Trailer for Young Adult Sci-Fi ‘The Host’ with Saoirse Ronan
With the conclusion of the ridiculously popular Twilight Saga, Open Road is eager to latch on to the next big young adult franchise with an adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s science-fiction novel The Host.
The film is set in a future where an alien species has invaded Earth by taking over the minds of nearly every single person. Saoirse Ronan stars as Melanie Stryder, a young woman who manages to fight back the Soul trying to take control of her mind. Apparently, she is the savior of humanity but not before she gets involved in a love triangle with wannabe Edward-and-Jacob.
It all sounds somewhat convoluted and quite a bit ridiculous but the trailer does a fairly decent job of explaining the premise of the film. If you hated Twilight, you will probably feel the same way about this. Andrew Niccol (In Time) directs with Max Irons and Diane Kruger also starring.

This looked fine until “From Stephanie Meyer” came on the screen. Soairse Ronan is such a great actress. Her paycheck must have been huge to get suckered into this crap.
I don’t think it was a huge paycheck. But given the potential of leading a franchise and becoming a much more recognizable star worldwide, you can’t really fault her for this.
I’m actually looking forward to this. Meyer writing the book is an obvious hold up, but I like Niccol and adore Ronan.
Lord of War? In Time? I don’t understand!
I’m not exactly looking forward to this but Saoirse Ronan is perhaps the silver lining of an otherwise blah super-franchise.
I don’t think it’s going to be a franchise, considering there’s only one book and that was released in 2008, before Meyer had even finished the Twilight books and before any of the movies were released. There has been talk of it becoming a series but it doesn’t seem likely at the moment…
The Host is actually a great novel, more adult then YA and nothing at all like that crap that is Twilight. xD
Your title of this post made me laugh, Castor, with the “OMG!” putting it over the top. haha
…saw her talk about this on a TV show at the weekend. They showed the trailer and she discussed what it’s about and I found myself switching off. Don’t fancy it at all. Sounds too much like Invasion of the Body Snatchers to me.
