Watch: First Red Band Trailer for ‘Kick Ass 2′ + New Pics
Universal has debuted the first trailer for director Jeff Wadlow‘s Kick-Ass 2. Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.
The first movie was a minor hit in the US box office ($48 million) and only made $96 million worldwide so I’m a bit surprised that this was greenlit. Not to say I didn’t enjoy the first installment and this certainly looks like it has potential with a nearly unrecognizable Jim Carrey but this looks pretty cheaply made.
Watch the trailer below (via MTV) and let us know what you think! Kick-Ass 2 opens on August 16th.

Jim Carrey sells this film for me. It looks like he’s going to make a comeback.
I was surprised too that the sequel got made but like you said, it’s cheap so that’s probably the reason why it was green light by the studio. I enjoyed the first film, will check out this sequel if it gets good reviews.
