Critically lauded over the past year, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a thrilling mystery tale that touches base on themes of darkness and despair, but at the same time manages to create characters intriguing enough to keep you glued to what’s happening, even if you don’t always want to look.

Movie Review: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010)

Directed by Mike Newell, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was publicized as the film that would finally gave us an exciting and decent video game adaptation. Unfortunately, it doesn’t live up to those expectations as it is simply a pure action fantasy movie that just drags on with a ridiculous story and uninteresting characters.

Movie Review: Hey, Hey It’s Esther Blueburger (2008)

Directed by Cathy Randall, Hey, Hey It’s Esther Blueburger is a wonderful coming-of-age comedy from Australia that you can’t help but love, even if the movie is far from perfect. The story isn’t all that fresh, as is the case with most coming-of-age stories, but the witty dialogue and excellent visuals help separate it from the rest of the pack and put it on a level just a rung lower than similar movies like Juno and Mean Girls, which this movie was certainly influenced by.

What should have been another fascinating look at real life characters quickly turns into a story that becomes very uninteresting because of a very poorly written central personality that you can’t help but dislike, if not hate.

2011 Oscar Predictions

Making a 2011 Oscar prediction this early is crazy. But you’re reading this, so doesn’t that make you a little crazy yourself? It’s okay. I’ve learned to just accept it. But anyways, we are 11 months away from the next Oscar ceremony, and it’s never too early to predict. I mean, at this point last year “Nine”, “Invictus” and “Amelia” were sure-fire locks for Best Picture nominations. That worked out, didn’t it?
