Every now and then, you come across a movie that turns out to be a gem and it feels so good to be able to enjoy such a movie among the overwhelming numbers of mediocre to average movies that are forgotten as soon as they are over. Lars and The Real Girl, directed by Craig Gillespie, is one of those movies that you expect very little off and end up being blown away.

Movie Review: Timecrimes (2007)
Where are the time-traveling movies Hollywood? Yes, there was the moving The Time Traveler’s Wife back in August but it was more of a romance movie with less emphasis on the sci-fi and then after that, we basically have to go back to The Butterfly Effect (2004) and Donnie Darko (2001) for some decent time-travel brainstorming. It is thus needless to say that I was giddy to discover Timecrimes (Los Cronocrimenes), a Spanish sci-fi thriller directed by Nacho Vigalondo.
Movie Review: Into the Wild (2007)
Directed by Sean Penn, Into the Wild is a movie based on the non-fiction book on the same title by Jon Krakauer which tells the adventures of Christopher McCandless. McCandless (Emile Hirsch) graduated from Emory University in 1990 and abandoned everything to travel across the country and live in the wilderness.
Movie Review: The Counterfeiters (2007)
Directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky, The Counterfeiters (Die Fälscher) is an Austrian-German war drama based on the true story of Operation Bernhard, the Nazi’s’ plan to counterfeit the English Pound and US Dollar to flood the market with fake notes and cause a monetary collapse. The movie won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2008.
Movie Review: Mongol (2007)
“Do not scorn a weak cub. He may become the brutal tiger.” Mongolian proverb
So begins Mongol, a Russian movie directed by Sergei Bodrov which was nominated by the Academy for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year. This historical epic was based on the 13th century book The Secret History of the Mongols and was made on the relatively small budget (for an epic) of $20 million and tells about the early life of Mongol warrior Genghis Khan.
Movie Review: In Search of a Midnight Kiss (2007)
In Search of a Midnight Kiss is an independent romantic comedy written and directed by Alex Holdridge. It’s that time of the year for our lonely and penniless main character Wilson (Scoot McNairy). New Year’s eve is fast approaching and he just had the worst year of his life. He got dumped by his long-time girlfriend and can’t get over it, had his laptop containing all his work stolen, and was just caught masturbating to a photoshopped picture of his roommate’s girlfriend.
Movie Review: The Visitor (2007)
Once in a while, you stumble upon a movie that you never heard of, and it surprises you immensely. And it feels magical! The Visitor is a movie best-approached by knowing absolutely nothing about it and I highly recommend that you watch it first. I feel bad for giving a synopsis of the plot but I feel I must. So here we go:
Movie Review: There will be Blood (2007)
There will be Blood is a drama/western directed by the fledgling Paul Thomas Anderson and starring the great Daniel Day-Lewis who won an Oscar for this role. Sadly, I only caught up to this movie nearly two years after its release.
The movie follows ruthless oil-man Daniel Plainview’s(Day-Lewis) life as he rises from rags-to-riches.
