Movie Review: Happy Go Lucky (2008)

Happy Go Lucky is a British movie that was a mere blip on the radar in the US so I jumped on the chance to see it. The movie directed by Mike Leigh, features Sally Hawkins as Poppy, an elementary school teacher with an interesting take on life. Yes, you guessed it, Poppy is happy go lucky. She has an extremely positive view of life, she smiles and laughs at anything and everything.

Movie Review: Gran Torino (2008)

Gran Torino (2008) If you haven’t seen it, you better see it. Clint Eastwood is a freaking beast, not only directing but putting up an amazing performance. He is truly the king of one-liners. Only thing that could be improved is the performance from some of the Hmong actors which was serviceable at best. Nevertheless, [...]

Movie Review: Body of Lies (2008)

Body of Lies, directed by Ridley Scott, and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe among others, is the latest spy movie to hit my DVD player. I’m not even going to try to give a summary of the movie because, quite frankly, I don’t really know what the f*ck happened in that movie and it [...]

Movie Review: The Lucky Ones (2008)

The Lucky Ones, directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist), is the latest from a long line of movie “about” the Iraq war. As witnessed the last few years, those movies haven’t done so well at the box office and this small independent production certainly did not break the mold. Movie Review: Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

You know it’s a recession when I have to choose between two movies, in this case Watchmen or Slumdog Millionaire. After seeing the Tomatometer at 94%, reading a few excerpt of critics wetting themselves, and of course being aware that the movie snatched up most of the hardware during award seasons among which the Oscar [...]

Movie Review: Hancock (2008)

Tired of watching the same old take on superhero movie? Then Hancock might just be for you. Hancock (Will Smith) is an alcoholic, careless superhero disliked by the general population because of his childish behavior and obvious contempt for just about everyone. Although well intentioned, Hancock causes immense amount of collateral damage, flying into buildings, [...]

Movie Review: The Dark Knight (2008)

Finally got to see the Dark Knight after being unable to go this past weekend. Drove off to another town just to realize that the showing was sold off, and came back to the local mall for a later showing. Ok, great, after half an hour of driving in a perplexed state, we got seats, [...]

Movie Review: Ironman (2008)

Just came back from Iron Man, by far the best Marvel comics movie up to this point (yea except for Spiderman 2, it’s really not that hard to do). I could give you the whole story again but you can read that in any review right? Robert Downey Jr. has always been an extremely talented [...]

Movie Review: Cloverfield (2008)

Cloverfield has been clouded by secrecy since its trailer appeared with the opening of box office smash Transformers last summer. Directed by Matt Reeves, the movie puts its audience in the shoes of nearly helpless bystanders who witness the attack of New York City by a gargantuan monster.
