Round 1 | "With the 9th pick in the draft, I select Christian Bale. The British actor has long been one of my favorite, becoming a huge household name while demonstrating his considerable acting chops in independent and arthouse-type movies. He proved himself as early as the age of 13 in Steven Spielberg’s underrated masterpiece Empire of the Sun and has played a variety of role from blockbuster mega-star to American Psycho and romantic lead. Christian Bale can be in my movie any time!"
Round 2 | She is lovely, classy and utterly compelling without having to look like a model. She lets her acting do the talk while so many others can only resort to being bimbos "gracing" the screen with their presence. It was obvious from her days in Slings and Arrows that she was remarkably gifted and would go far. With the 28th pick, I select the luminous Rachel McAdams, an actress who brings an earnestness and quiet authenticity to her characters that few can match. I truly believe that she will be the next Kate Winslet, the next great “American” actress.
Round 4 | Wildly talented and yet criminally underrated, he has made a career for himself as a character actor. The intelligence and everyman qualities that he brings to his performances have made him one of the most likable and authentic actor in the business. With the 98th pick, I select the versatile Mark Ruffalo, an actor who is subtle and confident in his acting and doesn't feel the constant need of wearing his emotions on his sleeve or overact.
Round 5 | This 3-time Oscar nominated actor is still unexpectedly on the board. He won an Oscar for his fierce and intense portrayal of army general-turned-slave and gladiator; he played the brutish yet fundamentally good Bud White in my favorite movie LA Confidential. With the 115th pick, I select Russell Crowe. Tuck all the phones in your pocket before he tosses one in your direction!
Round 5 | "With the 131st pick which I received from my good friend Neon, I select Patricia Clarkson, a versatile supporting actress who often steals the limelight effortlessly from much more popular stars. She is brilliant in literally every movie she appears in, from All the Real Girls, Lars and the Real Girl to Married Life or the recent Shutter Island. IF there is one thing you can be sure of with Clarkson, she will make the best of all the screen-time she gets."
Round 6 | My 6th round pick will be used to select 4-time Oscar nominated actor Ed Harris. He is one of my favorite older actor and can be a very warm and fatherly figure on-screen (The Truman Show) or play a cold and ruthless character as he did in An History of Violence. Needless to say, Ed Harris would be a rock solid addition to any cast in my mind.
Round 7 | I pick the enigmatic Terrence Malick. He is the perfect example of someone focusing on quality over quantity with only 4 masterful movies made in 4 decades: Badlands, Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line and The New World. Thankfully, The Tree of Life is coming out later this year and his next film is on tap to begin shooting in October. Malick is absolutely what I need for the type of film I’m going for. He is extremely deliberate and favors a contemplative style that puts an heavy emphasis on natural backgrounds, metaphoric allusions and dialogue-less scenes. Each frame of his movie is a painting that he crafts meticulously for months in the editing room. His movies have a lyrical quality that absolutely no one else can come close to.
Round 8 | I'm going to go ahead and take rising starlet Amanda Seyfried. I haven't seen any of her movies since Mean Girls but she obviously can't do no wrong as of late. She has expressive eyes which is something Malick always looks for in his actresses. I don't really have a part for her in my movie so I'm open to trade her lol else she will just sit in a corner and look pretty.
Round 9 | With my 9th round pick, I select David Morse. “That guy”, the familiar face who shows up in so many movies with little recognition. Well, he is going to be “that guy” in my star-studded movie.
