After getting the likes of Hugh Jackman, James Franco, Anne Hathaway, Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin, and Billy Crystal to put Oscar viewers to sleep in recent years, it looks like the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is finally getting bolder. Family Guy creator and Ted director Seth MacFarlane has officially been announced as the host of the 85th Annual Academy Awards.

The 84th Academy Awards have come to a close, and as expected, The Artist was the big winner of the night, taking home the big trio of Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. The movie also tacked on Best Costume Design and Original Score, giving it five wins for the the night.

The Oscars don’t always get things right. And even when you think they get things right, well, fifty-dozen other people think they got things wrong. But the more time that passes the more I realize the Oscars aren’t as much about “getting things right” as they are getting to watch a bunch of movie stars get together to celebrate the cinema in general.
