Movie Review: Zombieland (2009)

Finally got to see Zombieland, a zom-com directed by Ruben Fleischer. Zombieland starts wells as we are immersed in this somewhat ridiculous yet somewhat realistic post-apocalyptic world. Zombies have taken over the world and very few survivors remain. Only the wittiest and not necessarily strongest have survived the onslaught. However, this quickly fades into a pointless road trip slash zombie movie.

Movie Review: Inglourious Basterds (2009)

Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds is a graphic and thrilling World War II period fantasia set in occupied France. Clocking in at 152 minutes, the film is lengthy yet never dull and features several parallel stories and characters that end up converging toward a climatic ending.

Great Movie: Wedding Crashers (2005)

Wedding Crashers, directed by David Dobkin, is one of those movies whose simplistic premise should make for an entertaining but forgettable viewing experience, and to many people: it was. However I thought the movie was great and I loved it. Don’t get me wrong, Wedding Crashers is far from perfection (notably the last fourth of the movie) but I genuinely enjoyed it as it was so carefully crafted.

Movie Review: Happy Go Lucky (2008)

Happy Go Lucky is a British movie that was a mere blip on the radar in the US so I jumped on the chance to see it. The movie directed by Mike Leigh, features Sally Hawkins as Poppy, an elementary school teacher with an interesting take on life. Yes, you guessed it, Poppy is happy go lucky. She has an extremely positive view of life, she smiles and laughs at anything and everything.

Movie Review: Married Life (2007)

Married Life directed by Ira Sachs, is a dark and witty comedy of manners with a big dash of psychological thriller. Set in 1949, the plot is about Harry Allen (the formidable Chris Cooper), an apparently successful businessman. See, Harry seems to have it all, successful career, nice house, sex-driven wife (sublime Patricia Clarkson), he is living THE life! Except poor Harry longs for true love and that is missing. In comes Kay Nesbitt (lovely Rachel McAdams), a young war widow with whom Harry has an affair.

Movie Review: Star Trek (2009)

I just saw the latest Star Trek, directed by JJ Abrams. Needless to say it brings new life to the old franchise of the same name. First of all, aside from basic common knowledge, I’ve never been a Star Trek fan, never seen any of the previous movies (apparently, there was 10!!!) or even a [...]

Movie Review: The Lucky Ones (2008)

The Lucky Ones, directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist), is the latest from a long line of movie “about” the Iraq war. As witnessed the last few years, those movies haven’t done so well at the box office and this small independent production certainly did not break the mold. Given the fact that it is an independent production, and it got the luminous Rachel McAdams and good old Shawshank State Prison escapee Tim Robbins, I took a chance and rented the DVD.

Movie Review: Hancock (2008)

Tired of watching the same old take on superhero movie? Then Hancock might just be for you. Hancock (Will Smith) is an alcoholic, careless superhero disliked by the general population because of his childish behavior and obvious contempt for just about everyone. Although well intentioned, Hancock causes immense amount of collateral damage, flying into buildings, [...]

Movie Review: Ironman (2008)

Just came back from Iron Man, by far the best Marvel comics movie up to this point (yea except for Spiderman 2, it’s really not that hard to do). I could give you the whole story again but you can read that in any review right? Robert Downey Jr. has always been an extremely talented [...]

Movie Review: Juno (2007)

Just came back from watching Juno, directed by Jason Reitman, and I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised. The movie is quite hilarious, yet smart and witty. The movie features an excellent cast with Ellen Page, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner, and J.K Simmons. Pretty original turn, excellent script, brilliant casting and acting [...]
