Review: “The Road” is a Bleak Post-Apocalyptic Drama
Based on Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer-winning novel, The Road follows an unnamed man (Viggo Mortensen) and his young son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) struggling to survive a number of years after an unspecified, apocalyptic cataclysm has destroyed civilization as we know it, killing all wild life, and obscuring the sun.
Movie Review: LA Confidential (1997)
Adapted from the 1990 novel of the same name by James Elroy, LA Confidential (#62 IMDb Top 250, 99% RT) is a period crime thriller set in 1950′s Los Angeles where Hollywood’s deceptive gloss is met with a deeply corrupted and dark underworld where even the cops are up to no good. If you haven’t seen the movie, I would recommend you to stop reading this review, as it contains slight spoilers, and run to the video store to buy or rent this gem!
The Hurt Locker (2009)
The Hurt Locker, directed by Kathryn Bigelow, is a movie that has received considerable acclaim and is widely seen as the leading contender for the Academy Award for Best Picture. The reason I haven’t reviewed this movie earlier is that I wanted to watch the movie a second time and reflect on how much the completely unrealistic premises and behaviors take away from this otherwise very highly entertaining movie.
