Two new releases failed to overtake holdover Madagascar 3: Europe Most Wanted and Prometheus at the top of the US box office this past weekend. The DreamWorks animated feature is having a successful run, adding an additional $35.5 million in ticket sales and raising its domestic tally to $120.5 million in 10 days.
Enter Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, a prequel of sort to his 1979 classic, Alien. The film proposes the idea that an advanced alien race gave birth to the human race. But does it fulfill all the promise of its extraordinarily fascinating premise and Fox’s excellent marketing campaign?
DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3: Europe Most Wanted jumpstarted sagging ticket sales which had plagued the box office for the past few weeks. Meanwhile, Ridley Scott’s R-rated science-fiction film Prometheus debuted to a healthy $50 million.
Believe it or not, Ridley Scott’s much anticipated Prometheus is less than a month away! At this point, I don’t need any more convincing so I’m in full blackout mode but if you are interested, Fox has released the first clip from the film, entitled “Prometheus has landed.”
