A classic Sandra Bullock vehicle, The Proposal is a textbook romantic comedy that manages to hit every possible cliches of the genre despite starting out with a refreshing premise and getting good chemistry between its two co-stars.

The book is the true story of Michael Oher who eventually went on to become an All-American Left Tackle at the University of Mississippi and was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL Draft. Let’s make it clear from the start: You would expect this rags-to-riches movie to be about Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron), it is not.

This movie is exactly what I was referring to when I ranted about the quality of rom-coms going downhill. From the first minute on, the movie accumulates all the ingredients of a recipe for disaster. Meet Mary, she is a completely dysfunctional woman: she is stuck up, still lives with her parents and is socially awkward.
