Universal bounced back from the Battleship debacle with a surprisingly strong opening weekend from Snow White and the Huntsman. The Rupert Sanders dark take on the classic fairy tale managed an estimated $56.3 million despite lukewarm pre-release tracking which pointed to something closer to $45 million.

Universal has dropped a handful of excellent featurettes for Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman. If you want further proof that the movie is going to be nothing short of breathtaking in terms of imagery, you want to watch these.
Three New Images from ‘Snow White and The Huntsman’
Universal continues to promote Snow White and the Huntsman as a darker, grittier adaptation of the fairy tale. We are cautiously optimistic that Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and most particularly Charlize Theron will be able to make this a lot more badass and grown-up than you would expect from a traditional Snow White movie.

Universal has released two new pictures for Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman (via Facebook). In these, we get a good look at Chris Hemsworth and the eight dwarves as well as Charlize Theron doing her best impression of the Evil Queen. At this point, it’s fairly obvious that this particular adaptation looks more intriguing than Tarsem’s Mirror Mirror which is aimed at a much younger audience.
Battle of the Snow Whites: New Look at K-Stew in ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’; ‘Mirror Mirror’ Pushed Back
Universal and Relativity continue their tug of war over their respective adaptations of the Snow White tale.
